Janie Elliott

April 22, 1932 — January 8, 2013

Janie Louise Elliott, 80 years old and lifelong resident of Belmont and then Cambria in Christiansburg, VA, heeded her call to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearlie and Roy Elliott; and her brother, Walton Ray Elliott. She is survived by her sister, Georgia Alice Elliott; and cousins, Elmer Lee Shealor, Winifred Howell, Wayne Elliott, and their families.

Janie served as Joe Stewart’s “right hand man”, bookkeeper, and treasured friend. She was a devoted member of the entire Christiansburg Livestock Market family for almost 60 years and became a treasured family member to all involved in that enterprise. She served faithfully and sang joyfully at the Cambria Baptist Church, holding down the fort in the church nursery and in the choir loft for decades. Janie sustained her whole church family and all who knew her with faithfulness, love, capable hands, and a cheerful spirit.

Also left to miss her and cherish her memory are the many for whom she cared, especially Gene Allen Jennelle, Elizabeth Rivers Shoop, and Douglas Wiley. Janie served as a caregiver for so many children and their families that a complete list cannot be written. The Jennings and Eddleton families treasure Janie’s many years of neighborliness and love.

Visitation will be held at Horne Funeral Home from 5-8 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2013. The funeral service will be held at Cambria Baptist Church on Friday, January 11th at 1 pm. A graveside service will follow at Belmont Cemetery. Memorial gifts to Cambria Baptist Church’s music program are welcomed.
