James Ellis Wells, AKA “Sugar Man”, 67, of Christiansburg and formally of Floyd County, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. He was born
January 14, 1948 to the late Denver Ellis Wells and Izola Cox Wells Moye.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam era. He worked
as a heavy equipment operator, certified welder, and Big Rig driver. His special love
and passion was being a dedicated over the road driver. He was a member of the Loyal
Order of Moose, Montgomery County, VA Lodge 1470 for 37 years, where he relaxed,
shared funny stories, and enjoyed conversation with his special friends.
James is survived by his brother, Denny Wells (Judy) of Radford; sister Diane Wells
Whitlock of Christiansburg; nieces Sarah Whitlock of Ocracoke NC, Kayla Wells Chaffin (Blane) of Riner, Heather Whitlock of Christiansburg; nephew Matthew Wells (Brittany) of Willis; great-niece, Adara and five great-nephews, Brenton, Austin, Judah, Landin and Liam. He is also survived by his extended McPeak family and close cousins, Wilodeen, Rena, and Dale (Mary), two aunts; one uncle; and many other cousins.
James had a wonderful sense of humor, never met a stranger, and was very kind and
supportive of all his family and friends. He truly loved children and was known for
spoiling his nieces and nephews as well as other people’s children. He will be deeply
missed by all that knew him.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, June 7, 2015, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jeff Dalton officiating. Following will be a full military Graveside Service at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 5550 Bagging Plant Road, Dublin, VA.
