James Matz, Jr.

James Edgar Matz, Jr. (June), 72, of Shawsville, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edgar Matz; his mother, Lunsey Basham Matz Carter; an infant son, Timothy Edgar Matz; and a sister, Peggy Booth.
James was well known in his community. He owned Matz Trading Post and Matz Oil Co. in Elliston, VA. He also was a car salesman for Harvey Chevrolet and Shelor Motor Mile. He was once a member of Twin County Ruritan Club where he helped prepare boxes of food for the needy at Christmas time. He owned West 57 Mobile Home Park in Stuart, VA. He was in the Army Reserve for 6 years.
James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ardith Brammer Matz; two sons, Anthony James (Tony) and Kevin Wayne Matz; five grandchildren, Anthony James, Jr., Amy Nicole & fiance Phillip D. Morris, Cory Allen, Cayle Brooke and Kendra Ann; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry & wife Frances and Michael Randy Holland & wife Carmen; sisters Pat King & husband Henry, Ginger Smith & husband Douglas, and Betty Joe Gil & husband John; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 25th at 2 p.m. at the Shawsville Congregational Holiness Church, with Pastor Wes Conner and Ed Gallimore officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038, to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106-A, Roanoke, VA 24018, or to the Shawsville Rescue Squad, 6620 Roanoke Road, Shawsville, VA 24162.
The family would like to thank Carilion Home Health and Carilion Hospice for their tender care.
