James Marshall

November 7, 1936 — October 3, 2012

James (Monroe) Marshall of Christiansburg went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. He was born on November 7, 1936, the oldest child of Isaac Marshall and Mae Dishon Marshall.

After graduating from New River Community College, Monroe was employed as a Manufacturing Engineer. He retired from Medeco Security Locks where he received numerous awards for his lock designs. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Lions Club and the Jaycees. He served on the Advisory Board of Virginia Western Community College and was a member of Grace Life Baptist Church.

Monroe will always be remembered for the love he had for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Peggy Lester. He is survived by his fiancée Gloria Anderson, his daughter Tressia Price & husband Haven of Callaway, VA; son Randy Marshall & wife Donna of Hiwassee, VA; sisters Ella Mae Shepard, Dollie Lester & husband Wayne; brother Paul Marshall; grandchildren Dr. Justin Price & wife Julia, Kristen Sosebee & husband Kirk; Stacey Brewbaker, Alyssa Berryman & husband Monty; and ten great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Traci’s Care Givers, Carilion Hospice, and Dr. Harry McCoy and his staff for the care that they provided for Monroe.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Friday, October 5th at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 6th at 2 pm in the Horne Funeral Chapel, with Dr. A Timothy Hight and Rev. Gary Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Dishon Cemetery, Snowville. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Grace Life Baptist Church Building Fund.
