James Jones

December 22, 1923 — August 6, 2010

James Carlyle ( Carl) Jones, 86 , of Christiansburg, Virginia, boarded the gospel flyer August 5,2010, as it paused briefly on it's heaven bound journey. The conductor our Lord Jesus Christ assisted him in starting his homeward bound journey. Carl was born December 22, 1923 in Albemarle county Virginia, to the late James Walter and Maddie Gay Niday Jones. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to the Sinking Creek Valley in Craig county Virginia, where he attended Maywood school.

Carl began a career at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in 1942, which was interrupted in 1943, when he was drafted to serve in World war II. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, in the south Pacific until 1945. In 1948 Carl returned to work at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, where he continued working until his retirement in 1986.

Carl's loves in life were God, his family, music, traveling, reading, and photography. He enjoyed attending Wesleyan Community Church in Blacksburg, Virginia, where he often sang and played his favorite instruments, the auto harp, and the guitar. He also enjoyed writing songs and poems. He loved people, staying active, and a good joke, even if it was on himself.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Orange Jones, sister’s Mildred Poff, Christiansburg, Virginia; Eileen Buck, Charlottsville, Virginia; and Brother Douglas Jones, Christiansburg, Virginia.

Surviving are his wife Hallie M. Jones, Christiansburg, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Bruce R. and Linda L. Jones, Riner, Virginia; sister Janice Furrow, Newport, Virginia; granddaughters, Tasha Keller, Nashville, Tennessee: Leigh Quintana, Christiansburg, Virginia; and great grandchildren, Xander Keller, Lucia Quintana and Greg Quintana.
