James Edward Bland, 74, of Elliston, VA, passed away on January 11, 2012.
He was retired from N & S Railroad.
He is survived by his wife, Joeann S. Bland; his children, James Anthony and Terry Lee (Betty); grandchildren, Jessica Sowers (Clinton), whom he raised as his daughter; 2 step-grandchildren, Stephanie Davis (Duane) and Matthew Peyton; 5 step great-grandchildren; brothers & sisters, Catherine Bland of Radford, Dorothy Dalton of Blacksburg, Della Christian (Roy) of Salem, Shirley Richardson (Kenneth) of Christiansburg, Carl Bland (Betty) of Elliston, Curtis Bland (Doris) of Dublin and Wayne Bland (Renee) of Shawsville.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the Carilion Hospice for all the care they gave during this difficult time.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 14, 2012, from 5-8 pm at the Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at 3 pm at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ed Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Piedmont Cemetery, Shawsville.
