ARNOTT, Gordon John, age 79, of Blacksburg, VA., formerly of Kirkwood, MO., and Sebring, FL., died March 11, 2008 at Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg, VA.
Born June 2, 1928 in East Dearborn, MI., he was the son of the late John and Clara Arnott. Mr. Arnott was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years and mother of his children, the late Beverly Hadsell Arnott, formerly of Flint, MI., Kirkwood, MO., and Sebring, FL.
He is survived by two children, David Arnott and wife Dinah of Blacksburg, VA.; Ann Arnott Cook and husband Tim Cook of O’Fallon, MO.; one brother, Bruce Arnott and his wife, Nancy, of Dearborn Heights, MI.; and five grandchildren, Katy Cook, Mary Arnott, Gordon D. Arnott, Travis Arnott, and Allison Arnott. Dear uncle and great uncle to numerous loving nieces and nephews and friend to many.
Gordon John received bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, Master’s degree from U. of MI., Ann Arbor, and studied for his PH.D at Purdue University. Mr. Arnott served in the army of Occupation in Japan through 1947. He raised his family in Kirkwood, MO., retired from Defense Mapping Agency after 33 years of service in 1988, made his retirement home in Sebring, FL., where after the passing of Beverly, later married Mildred. Member of Masonic Lodge of Sebring, FL., Sebring Tourist Club, Highland Shrine Club, First United Methodist Church of Sebring, FL., editor of Sebring Tourist Club news, and former member of First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, MO.
Grave side service with military honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO., on March 27, 11am. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of your choice.
