Gloria Hornbarger

Hornbarger, Gloria Lester, 75, departed this life on August 16, 2010 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born on August 1, 1934 in Fincastle, VA to the late Tra Damon Lester and Clydia Cox Lester. The family moved to Peoria, Illinois and after the death of Mr. Lester, the family returned to the Indian Valley section of Floyd County. She attended Willis High School and was in the graduation class of 1952. She began her career in banking at First & Merchant’s Bank in Radford following her graduation. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death was a wonderful brother-in- law, Clarence Boyer, of Galax.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Donald Hornbarger, of Christiansburg; her sister, Geneva Boyer, formerly of Galax and presently residing in Christiansburg. Also surviving are sister & brother-in-laws, Jean Hornbarger Dickerson and husband, Blane, of Richmond and Pat Hornbarger Fulcher and husband, Bill, of Christiansburg.
Gloria followed her husband during his military career, always seeking and successfully finding employment in the banking profession. She was a hard working, dedicated and loyal person in all of her endeavors. She was a faithful walker, not only for her health, but also a participant in the Relay for Life Walks. In 2006, she was honored as the top fund raising individual of Montgomery County. She will truly be missed by her family, cousins, and neighbors and friends. We thank the staff on the 10th floor, especially Carolyn and Lisa, for the wonderful care giving to Gloria in her last days.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Cox officiating.
