Fred Graham

GRAHAM, FRED A., 75, formerly of Christiansburg, died peacefully at home in Roanoke with his wife, Nancy, by his side on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. He was born in Christiansburg on March 24, 1929 to the late Henry Lee and Annie Collins Graham.

He served his country in the U. S. Army for four years. Fred was also a 46 year employee of Angle's Grocery in Christiansburg, and a part-owner for 15 years until its closing in 1990. He then worked for Wade's Supermarket in Christiansburg for 13 years as a meat cutter until his retirement in 2003.

Fred was preceded in death by his infant daughter; two brothers, Harry Raymond Graham of Florida and Robert Lee Graham of Christiansburg; and his sister-in-law, Joanne Engle Young and her husband, Ray. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy Engle Graham; sister, Allene Graham of Christiansburg; two daughters, Annette Burkett and husband, Tyler of Mechanicsville, VA; and Krin Turpin and husband, Doug, of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Carson Burkett and Mackenzie Burkett of Mechanicsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Louise Graham of Florida, Ruby Graham of Christiansburg, Kathryn Kelley and husband, Elmon of Vinton, Jerry Engle of Florida; several nieces and nephews and his special cat, Scooby-doo. Fred was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved the Lord and his family. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a special thanks to dear neighbors, Duward and Helen Starkey of Roanoke, and to Tim Horton of Vinton, a special gentleman who worked so diligently to save Fred's life. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Horne Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 24th at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg with Pastor Chuck McHose and Pastor Tyler Burkett officiating.
