Rev. Frank E. S. Reid

September 28, 1936 — November 29, 2014

Rev. Frank E. S. “Ted” Reid, of Christiansburg, passed away on November 29, 2014. He was born on September 28, 1936 in Williamsport, PA to the late Frank Reid and Margaret (Donovan) Reid.

He was an author, orator, preacher, teacher, thespian, husband and father. He graduated from Denison University and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His ministerial career took him to many churches in Pennsylvania and West Virginia where he, along with his wife Charlotte, cared for one and all who came for hope, healing and acceptance. He also ran two children’s homes in Brooklyn and White Plains, NY – caring for the vulnerable and neglected. He most recently shared his gifts with Glade Church in Blacksburg, VA where he substituted in the pulpit and joined in spiritual union those who asked - without judgment, but with a loving heart. He taught Public Speaking and Introduction to Theatre at a small college in WV, where he also joined the family of the local Community Theatre. In retirement, he brought his many theatrical talents to Wolfhahrt Haus in Wytheville, VA, where he developed a loyal fan base and got to do what he loved best of all. His volunteer efforts were numerous and varied and included driving an ambulance, teaching the illiterate to read, and most recently reading newspaper entries so the blind could stay informed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Anne Fuhrer Reid; and his beloved son, David Andrew Charles Reid. He is survived by his son, Jonathan Edward Clark Reid, his wife Virginia (Kohler) Reid and grandson Ian (Blacksburg, VA); his daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Margaret Elizabeth Payton and her husband Gerald (Jerry) (Athens, WV), and granddaughter, Susan and grandson, Sean; his daughter, Lydia Jane Ellen Reid, her husband, Daniel Jansen and grandson, Caleb (DeForest, WI); as well as his brother, Charles Reid and wife Linda (Wood) Reid (Harrisburg, PA).

Ted was proud of his Scottish heritage, and he has fulfilled his clan motto: Glory is the reward of virtue.
