Fannie Davis

August 25, 1913 — June 24, 2008

DAVIS, Fannie Lee, 94, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008.

Fannie attended Mountain Top Mission Church in Christiansburg until she moved to Lynchburg in June of 2006. Since she was legally blind and very hard of hearing she didn’t attend Church in Lynchburg but did listen to the Old Time Gospel Hour on Television. She loved to cook and sew, she canned vegetables from the garden and also made jelly and canned fruit. When Fannie attended family reunions, she would always prepare several dishes rather than take only one like most people did. She attended the Davis family reunion in Blacksburg last year where she celebrated her 94th birthday. Fannie grew up in hard times and in order to save money she made most of her children’s clothes during the second world war. She made some of the clothes from animal feed sacks. She also worked at Sam Moore Chair Factory in Christiansburg as a seamstress for several years.

The daughter to the late William H. and Mary J. Thornhill, she was preceded in death by her husband; Lovell M. Davis, sons; Bryce T. Davis, Rev. Jimmy E. Davis, daughter; Ora Lane Davis, and one brother; Ray Thornhill. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Nelson Davis and his wife Ruby of Lynchburg, and one daughter; Patricia A. Davis of Lynchburg. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and fourteen great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 27, 2008 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at The Horne Funeral in Christiansburg where a funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Tom Willis and Rev. Claude Dove officiating.

Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery Blacksburg. Online condolences may be sent by visiting hornefuneralservice.com. The Davis family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg.
