Emma Young

March 5, 1940 — November 22, 2012

Emma Jean Young, age 72, of Christiansburg, answered the call to go home on Thursday, November 22, 2012, surrounded by her family at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Young; and her sister Geraldine Kelly.

Emma was a member of the Christiansburg Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She touched many lives and told many stories as a hairdresser for over 30 years.

She is survived by 5 children, Carol Teass, Etta Whitaker (Joe), Mark Weddel (Christina), Brian Weddel (Gina) and Joe Young (Eric), all of Christiansburg. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Cam Cantrell, James Cantrell, Velva Wirt and Barbara Taylor. She enjoyed spoiling her 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Her children would to also thank their Aunt Velva for being there for her sister, also Emma’s Carilion Hospice family: Heather, Sophie and Vanessa and her friends at Blue Ridge Cancer Center.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 24, 2012, from 5-8 pm at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 25th at 2 pm in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Buford Linkous and Pastor John Wertz, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
