Elva Slusser

October 23, 1927 — April 14, 2011

Elva Bishop Slusser, 83 of Christiansburg, went to her eternal home in Heaven as she joined her Lord and Savior on April 14, 2011.

She was a Godly, Christian lady in every sense of the word and is finally reunited with her soul-mate. Elva was a dedicated and loving wife of forty-six years to the late Joe F. Slusser and she stood by his side daily at Slusser’s Meat Processing.

She shared her faith in God with those she came in contact with and could often be found with her Bible open to Proverbs 3:4-5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.”

She is survived by her loving daughter Kathy Slusser Drummond and husband John of Christiansburg, Virginia; her granddaughter Stacey Ely (who loved and admired her Memmie so much) and husband Brian of Abingdon, Virginia; grandson Ross Drummond, wife Elsha and their children William, Lucy and Jack of Salt Lake City, Utah; and grandson William Drummond and fiancé Alicain Carlson of Apex, North Carolina. She is also survived by her loyal companion, her dog Baxter. He stayed faithfully by her side for 6 years, providing her joy and unconditional love.

Many thanks to the Blacksburg and Christiansburg Volunteer Rescue Squads and the nursing staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital for their loving care. In addition, the family would like to express thanks to Dr. Joseph Cacioppo and Medi Home Health and Hospice for their dedication to ensuring she had the best care possible and tending to her needs so selflessly. Also, to Donna Burnes and Neil Turner for being there when we needed you most.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Elva’s memory to International Christian Resources, 2008 Hardwick St, Blacksburg, VA 24060. This mission group was formed by Dr. Cacioppo to ignite disciples through student missions. Our hope is that her love of the Lord will continue through the work of this mission group throughout the world.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:30 in the afternoon at Horne Funeral Home Chapel to honor the life of this very special lady. Friends are invited to pay their respects beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
