Edward Ray Young

Edward Ray Young was born in Radford, VA on June 18, 1957.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Judson & Ruth Young and his beloved canine companion, "Augustus Copper-Jake" AKA Gus. He is survived by his wife, Mary Young; children, Kellie Wilkinson & husband, Chris, Brandon Young & wife, Carey, Eddie Holbrook & wife, Freda, Lisa Ashworth​ & husband, Doug, Sarah McPeak and Lee Winkle; grandchildren, Braxton Gill, Jaxson Young, Kaylee Jones, Emily Holbrook, Madison Winkle, Kayla, Kristin & Kara Ashworth and Emma & Aiden Minnick; big brother, Wagner Young & wife, Dana; sister, Loretta Crawford & husband, Gary; nephew, Theron Lester & wife, Cyndi; nephew , Wesley Young & wife, Lisa & their children, Trevor & Bradley; niece, Lori Lester and friend, Molly; and a host of friends including, Alex Duncan, whom Eddie always considered as one of his own children.

Eddie was especially proud and had a tremendous love for all his grandchildren. Another great joy was his current canine companion, John Henry. Eddie was a lover of the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter or in his words "professional buck slayer". He was musically talented and enjoyed playing his guitar and carried on a family tradition by playing his beloved father's autoharp. Unless he felt bad Eddie was always going full force and wide open from the minute his eyes opened until he fell asleep. He was a big jokester and loved to joke, cutup and carry on with all his family and friends bringing smiles and laughter to all who knew him. Even though he had many health issues Eddie always lived life to the fullest every day by doing what he wanted, when he wanted no matter what.

The family received friends on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor T. Michael Bond and Rev. Justin Quesenberry officiating. Burial will follow at Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery.
