Edward D. Weltens, Jr., 70, of Radford, VA, passed away on January 2, 2013. “Ed” was born on June 23, 1942, in San Antonio, TX.
He was involved in the insurance and legal field for more than 40 years, and retired in 2007. He attended and graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio TX, and was a fanatic University of Texas supporter.
His parents were Edward D. Weltens, Sr. and Francis Weltens. His three siblings, Charles, Max, and Marcia, predeceased Ed. He is survived by his sons, Edward, John Bertram, Kevin, Keith, and Bradley. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren.
Ed was an accomplished hunter, reader, and master gardener. He was fond of collecting stamps, coins, and rare items of family significance. He was known by most as Mr. Ed; a casual and outgoing man who touched many with his thoughtfulness and generosity.
A mass will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013, at 2 pm at St. Jude’s Catholic Church on Tyler Avenue, Radford. A memorial service will take place at a later date in San Antonio.
