Edison Canada

April 2, 1921 — October 17, 2010

Canada, Edison, 89, of Christiansburg, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2010. He was born April 2, 1921 in Saulsville, W.V., the eighth of eleven children born to Fleming and Charlotte Canada. Mr. Canada has one surviving brother, Ulvert Canada of Grantville, Ga.

Mr. Canada served in the US Army at the end of WW II as part of the occupying forces in Japan. He was a coal miner for over 20 years in Wyoming County, WV, prior to moving to Christiansburg, Va., where he was a barber for many years under the name of “Red Canada’s Barber Shop.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Maxine S. Canada, son, Lloyd H. (Marcia) Canada of Stanardsville, Va., son, Jerry L. (Lane) Canada of Roanoke, Va.; five grandchildren, Michelle C. (Greg) Proffitt, Heather C. (Doug) Nothstine, Benjamin B. (Denise) Canada, Jennie C. (Brian) Weeks, Adam H. (Melanie) Canada; and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00A.M. on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Gateway Baptist Church, Blacksburg, Va., by Dr. Scott Souther and Rev. Dewey Weaver, Jr. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, Va., from 5 P.M., to 7 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gateway Baptist Church, 2196 Harding Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060.

The family would like to acknowledge the excellent and loving care of the entire staff of 2nd floor north, Friendship Health and Rehabilitation Center, Roanoke, Virginia. The family would also like to thank the crew from Station 1, Roanoke County Fire and Rescue for their dedication and great work.
