Douglas Allen McGhee, age 76, of Christiansburg, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family and was always quick to help anyone. Doug was born in Radford on May 30, 1944 and spent the last 50+ years serving the New River Valley through his own business, McGhee Plumbing, Heating, and Electrical. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, golf, and boating at Claytor Lake.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kimberley McGhee, his sons Michael McGhee (Melody), Mark McGhee (Nancy), and Seth McGhee (Katie), his daughter Morgan Meneghini (Logan), and his stepson, Neil Miller (Carla). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Michaela, Hazel, and McKenzie McGhee, Claire, Lydia, and Maddox Meneghini, and four step-grandchildren, Felicia Burton (Brad), and Nathan, Ryan, and Ember Miller. Additionally, there are three step-great-grandchildren, William, Austin, and Harless Burton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Paul Stover officiating. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local humane society in his honor if you feel led to do so.
