Donald Walters

WALTERS, SR. DONALD ELLIS, of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at New River Valley Medical Center.

Sergeant First Class Donald E. Walters (3rd Infantry Division 3rd AAA AW BN SP), served his country above and beyond the call of duty. He was a Korean War Veteran. Don was a Prisoner of War, Korean Campaign Ribbon with three bronze battle stars; received distinguished medals, serving Japanese Occupation, Korean medal, U. N. Ribbon, Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal. He had three tours of duty in Korea; fought at the Chosin Reservoir. He served his country with dignity, honor and protected many of his comrades. He received many accommodations from General MacArthur. Don was a member of the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7854, Floyd, VA.

Donald grew up in Christiansburg, Virginia where he played high school football. He believed in living life to the fullest and he loved life.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jessie B. & Nellie Walters; his sisters, Kathleen Collins, Dorothy Harris, Mary Lee Hedas, Betty Woolwine, and Barbara Walters.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Jane Walters; children, Tony & Becky Walters, Don & Traci Walters, Jr., John & Pat Walters, William L. & Lori Walters, David Walters, Lisa & Doug Connelly, Heather & Joe King; grandchildren, Kelsey, Tara, Joci, Jace, Tiffany, Nicole, Chad, Danielle, Cara, Bridgette, Kristopher, Tyler, Trevor, Caitlin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan & Helen Walters; Dale & Pauleda Walters; Lonnie & Joyce Walters; brothers-in-law, Curtis Howell, Sr. and wife, Teresa; Amos Puckett; former wife, Joan Walters and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2006 at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Horne Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post #7854. Donald chose to improve the quality of human life by being an organ/tissue donor. Please consider memorial contributions to the VFW of Floyd or the Breast Cancer Society. The Walters Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, (382-2612).
