Dewey E. (Fred) Carpenter, Sr., 68, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at home.
He was born on September 19, 1943, in Bland, VA, and was the son of the late Comie Carpenter & Beulah Spangler Carpenter.
Dewey was employed at Virginia Tech.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara L. Carpenter; children, Richard (Ricky) E. Burton of Chicago, IL, Teresa (Sluefoot) B. Blevins of Blacksburg, VA, Dewey E. Carpenter, Jr., Michael W. Carpenter, and Regina B. Terry; grandchildren, Lucas D. Westmoreland, Phillip J. Blevins, and Alex R. Blevins; cousins, Eddie Carpenter, Stanley Hamm, Eugene Hamm, Larry Hamm, and Mildred (Susie) Lowe; and many more special family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, from 6-8 pm at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at 11 am at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Belmont Cemetery, Christiansburg.
Flowers are appreciated, however, the family would request you consider making memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106-A, Roanoke, VA 24018.
