Clarence Clayton Rice

February 3, 1930 — November 19, 2018

Clarence Clayton Rice, 88, of Christiansburg, passed from this life to his much anticipated Heavenly home on Monday, November 19, 2018.

Clarence was born on February 3, 1930 to the late John Harrison and Mable Gibson Rice. Clarence was a respected local builder and stayed active whether he was building furniture for family and friends, working in the garden, or building a swimming pool. He showed his artistic flair through many paintings and he was the author of four short books detailing stories form his childhood and spiritual life.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, John Harrison Rice, Jr., Emma Rice Gearheart, Ruth Rice Clements, Anna Rice Gillespie, and Paul Rice. Clarence is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Stallard Rice; siblings, Betty Jane Watson (Carl), Bill Rice (Ruby). He will be remembered fondly by his daughter, Wanda Rice Brickey; and sons, Clayton Allen Rice and Jackie Marvin Caldwell.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 23, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Price and Rev. Everett Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
