Charles Hampton 'Hamp' Akers

Charles Hampton (Hamp) Akers, Christiansburg, passed away on August 17, 2015. Hamp was born on April 30, 1921, to the late Blaine and Carlene Akers. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Sue Crockett, and Tootsie Akers; and his best friend and loving wife of 63 yeas, Lucille “Lou”.

Left to cherish his memory and sense of humor are his daughter, Patricia A. Byrd (Dickie); son, Daniel Hampton Akers; grandchildren, John Charles ‘Chuck’ Simpkins, Stacie Simpkins Rodriquez (Tony), Shellie Simpkins Duncan (Billy), Sara Maria Akers, Andrew Hampton ‘Andy’ Akers; great-grandchildren, Patricia ‘Nikki’ Simpkins, Matthew ‘Matt’ Duncan, Tanner Duncan, Alex Duncan; brothers, J.D. Akers (Jan), Kelly Akers (Nikky), George Akers; sisters, Dot Ford (Ken), Betty Jean Linkous, Janet Cundiff; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Hamp was a proud member of the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked many years at RAAP and later retired from the VA Hospital.

As requested by Hamp, there will be no services. To remember ‘Hamp’ best, make someone laugh today.
