Blanche Marie Yates, 93, of Shawsville, VA, has gone home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Underwood & Fannie Atkinson Underwood; her husband, Carl Watson Yates; her sons, Ralph Watson Yates and Gordon Lee Yates.
She is survived by her sons, Norman Yates & wife, Shirley of Shawsville and Jeff Underwood & wife, Belinda of Shawsville; grandchildren, Robbie & Carole Yates, Kristin & Elijah Howard and Kelly & Tommy Booth; great-grandchildren, Kylie Yates, Hollie Yates, Camren Anders, Marshall & Maggie Howard; special friends, Betty Atkinson and Ethel Smith; and a special niece, Cheryl.
Blanche was a member of Sowders Chapel Church, was very involved in the music at the church and was church pianist for over 30 years.
She was a loving mother & grandmother and was “Granny” to many children in the community over the years. She was also a member of RSVP.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, from 5-8 pm at the Horne Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at 1 pm at the Sowders Chapel Baptist Church, with Pastor Lanny Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sowders Chapel Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Heritage Hall.
