Betty Thompson Teel, 80, of Christiansburg, passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Floyd Co. to the late Trigg & Lala Mitchell Thompson. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cederic Thompson and Glenn Thompson.
Betty was a lifelong member of the Christiansburg Church of Christ and worked as head teller at First National Bank in Riner for 18 ½ years. After retiring from First National Bank, she volunteered at Carilion New River Valley Hospital in Radford.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Don Teel; daughters, Marisa Teel of Chicago, IL and Donna Kay Hudson (Jay) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Kelsey and Daniel Hudson; sisters, Christine Reed (Harden), Erma Jean Gallimore (Roger), both of Christiansburg, Nancy Tackitt (Hollis) of Nashville, TN, Marie Hensley (Wendell) of Blacksburg; brothers, Major Thompson (Gail) of Farmville, VA, Russell Thompson (Dee) of Houston TX, and Joe Thompson of Richmond, VA; as well as several nieces and nephews and other family and friends. The family would like to say a special thank you to her sister-in-law, Peggy Sheppard (Roger) and their son, Jeff.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Christiansburg Church of Christ, with Mr. Dennis Curd officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Betty’s name to the Christiansburg Church of Christ, 1250 S. Franklin St., Christiansburg, VA 24073, to the Riner Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 11, Riner, VA 24149 or to the Riner Rescue Squad, P O Box 858, Riner, VA 24149.
