STEELE, BESSIE LOU O'NEIL, 83 of Christiansburg, departed this life on Friday, April 1, 2005. She was born May 9, 1921 in Christiansburg, VA.
Bessie was a daughter of the late Mary Long O'Neil and Robert Wilson O'Neil of Christiansburg. She lived a simple life but was not a simple person. She raised four children, took care of her husband, Fred Lee Steele, whom she was married to for fifty five years. She lost her true love six years ago on September 18, 1999.
Bessie was an amazing wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor. She loved being outside tending to her flowers, trees, yard and playing with her animals. She was kind and generous to others and gave of her self and belongings to those less fortunate. She was warm, understanding and had a special twinkle in her eye.
Surviving are her four children, Don, Barb, Greg, and Sue. Also surviving is her son-in-law, Rad, daughters-in-law, Becky and Joan, ddaughters, Khrys, Katherine, husband Scott and great grandson, Nathan, many good neighbors, relatives and friends. "We love you Mom and are glad you are finally with Daddy and can rest in peace."
The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, VA 24068, in her honor.
The family will receive friends from 3 - 6 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005 at The Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2005 at The Horne Funeral Home Chapel. The interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
