Benjamin Gill Burk

Benjamin Gill Burk, 85, of Christiansburg went to be with the Lord on September 25, 2015.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, John Riley and Artie Grace Linkous Burk; brothers, Jim, Harry, Nathan, Joe, Johnny Boy; and sisters, Claire Lang and Grace Burk. Ben is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred Sutphin Burk; daughter, Paula (Mike) Dull of Roanoke; son, Mark (Claire) Burk of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Michelle E. Mullins of Blue Ridge, Benjamin (Trent) Dull of Roanoke, Andrew Burk of Washington, D.C., Emerson Burk of Chesapeake, Paul (Candi) Dull of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and William Mullins of Blue Ridge, Madison Dull of Roanoke; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Gary and Sandra, Randall and Dreama, Leroy and Edith, Kenny and Josh.

Ben attended Christiansburg High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked in the Maintenance of Way Department for Norfolk Southern Corporation for 44 years. Ben enjoyed music, traveling, photography and attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a faithful member of Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church in Radford. Ben never met a stranger. He was a kind, humble gentleman and was a loving father and grandfather.

The family thanks the VA Medical Center, Advanced Home Heath, Home Instead Senior Care, Intrepid Hospice Services, and special care givers, Cindy, Barbara, Alicia and Kelly. Lastly, to everyone who prayed, visited, called, texted - every act of kindness has been greatly appreciated. We pray that God will richly bless you in return.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, from 5-8:00 p.m. at Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church with Pastor Lester Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in Belmont Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church, 6893 State Rd. 1204, Fairlawn, VA 24141.
