Banner Brown

December 14, 1934 — March 5, 2005

BROWN, BANNER BAXTER, JR. (B.B.), of Christiansburg passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005.

He was born in Clincho, Virginia on December 14, 1934. He was predeceased by his Father and Mother, Dr. and Mrs. Banner B. Brown of Christiansburg.

He is survived by his children Banner Baxter Brown, III of Charleston, SC; Bruce B. Brown of New Preston, Conn., David Pierpont of Herdon, VA; and Blanton C. Brown of Alexandria, VA; his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda & Peck Givens of Greenville, SC; his grandchildren, Banner Baxter Brown IV of Charleston, SC; and Nicole and Bruce Jr. of New Preston, Conn. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. James M. Perry of Camden Maine. Mrs. Perry is his mother?s only surviving sister. He is also survived by three nieces, one nephew and many cousins including close friend and cousin, John Ed Riddle of Dublin.

He was a graduate of Christiansburg High School, attended Virginia Tech and Hampden-Sydney College where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the United States Army and was stationed on Okinawa. He worked for the State of Virginia and the Federal Government in small business loan management. After retiring in Christiansburg he was a partner in The Balcony Restaurant in Blacksburg. For many years he was an active member of the Blue Ridge Soaring Society in New Castle, VA, a model plane enthusiast and authored many articles for model airplane magazines.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at the Horne Funeral. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chuck McHose officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post #1184. Brown Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, (382-2612).
