Althea Bailey

Althea Ann Scott Bailey, 84, of Radford, passed away on March 5, 2012.

Born in Basham, VA on October 2, 1927, she was raised in Pilot, VA and graduated with honors from Auburn High School in Riner. Later in life she attended Radford University, graduating with her master's degree in History and English. She retired as an archivist with McConnell Library at RU and spent 30 years as the Director of the Wilderness Road Regional Museum in Newbern, VA.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brad Swain; husband, Blonnie Bailey; and brothers, Arnold Ray Scott and Wallace Scott.

Survivors include her daughter, Robin Smith ( Mike); step-sons Larry Bailey (Paulette), and Buddy Bailey ( Lois); sister-in-law Barbara Scott; grandchildren, Kandice Perdue, Michael and Robert Swain, and Sarah Smith plus many other special family members; her very special friend Karl Pedersen, and many, many friends.

Special thanks to the nurses and aides with Southern Care Hospice and to the nursing staff of Heritage Hall for their wonderful care during her stay.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 5-7 pm at Horne Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery at a later date.
