Albert James 'Jim' Harrison
July 8, 1926 — November 18, 2015
Albert James (Jim) Harrison of Christiansburg VA passed away on November 18th 2015. Jim was born in London England on July 8 1926. He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Harrison, sister Dorothy Makris and sister Stella Harrison and his beloved cocker spaniels Snoopy and Holly.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Harrison of 40 years, son Ron Harrison of London Ontario, daughter Christine Noals and husband Gordan of London Ontario, daughter Janet Sutphin and husband Rick Sutphin of Olathe, Kansas, daughter Jackie Martin and husband Novel Martin of Roanoke Virginia. Grandchildren Shauna Ewart, Erin, Karna, and Robyn Glen of London Ontario, Kate Harrison of London Ontario, Brittany, Matthew and Ashley Sutphin of Olathe, Kansas and Courtney, Natalie and Mackenzie Martin of Roanoke Virginia. Brother Bob Harrison and wife Andrea of London England and sister Ethel Paterson of London England. He also has three great grandchildren.
Jim was a veteran in the British Army and served in Egypt and Palestine. He moved to Canada in 1951 working for Canadian Aircraft. He later came to the United States in 1969 and lived in Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia. He retired from Volvo Trucks in Dublin VA in May 1991.
He became a U.S. Citizen but never lost his British Humor or Wit. He loved soccer, tennis and swimming and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family on many vacations and holiday festivities. He was an avid reader and went to the Christiansburg Library multiple times per week.
Visitation will be on Sunday November 22nd 2015 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM followed by a service at 4:30 pm at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg Virginia with the Reverend Clayton Kipps officiating. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff at Salem Health and Rehab for taking care of Jim for the last two years as he has fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. We'd also like thank Dr Kenneth Jones of Christiansburg VA who took care Jim for many years and was Jim's most trusted doctor.
