George 'June' Williams Jr.

d. February 6, 2018

George Williams (June) Jr., 95, of Shawsville, entered his heavenly home on February 6, 2018, at Lewis Gale Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Naomi Williams; his beloved wife of 65 years, Ida Lou Compton Williams; sister, Margie Hurst; brothers, Bill, Joe, Clarence (Punk), and Roy Williams.

June is survived by his children, Carol (Steve) Watterson, and Jimmy (Laurie) Williams; grandchildren, Joseph Scott Williams, Gwendolyn Renee Williams, Jennifer Williams (Paul) Lee, Jason (Brandy) Williams, James (Penny) Williams, Kristen (Bobby) Dollman, Andrew Crawford; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Hazel Chumley; sisters-in-law, Helen Williams, Bettie Williams, Phyllis Wagner, Margaret (Lewis) Moore, Louise Card; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

June served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He has been a lifetime member of White Memorial Church (Shawsville), charter member of Shawsville Ruritan Club, member of the VFW, founding member of the Alleghany District Fire Department. He owned and operated S & W Amoco Station, and retired from Southland Life Insurance.

He was an avid sports fan, friend to all, and willing to lend a helping hand. His Newtown family and children meant the world to him. He enjoyed his front porch sitting and always had an open door with candy in the drawer for neighborhood children.

A special thank you to Dr. Gretchen Junko, Sarah Bane of the Lewis Gale Emergency and nurse Rose of Pallative Care on 6 West at Lewis Gale. Also to Dr. Julia Hemphill and the staff of Carilion Clinic Shawsville and to all the nurses and staff of the VA Veterans Care Center. Special thanks to all sitters that took care of him at home.

He will be greatly missed by all – to know him was to love him.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 10, 2018, from 1-3 p.m. at White Memorial Church. The Memorial Service will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev.
